We are looking for a confident and creative Account Manager with loads of experience in the digital agency game.

When we think of you, we think this: You love the web, and everything ‘online’. You’re the kind of person who makes lists of the lists you need to make, ie you’re super organised. You’re a naturally born communicator who loves client interaction; detail is your middle name.

You will be versatile, a team player, and you can handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ideally, you’ll have a sense of humour and be able to hit the ground running.

Your responsibilities:

Interface with assigned accounts daily to provide solutions, manage expectations, and then ensure that these expectations are exceeded – you are responsible for these clients;

Identify and manage future opportunities, internal resources, deliverables, timelines, budgets and scope;

Identify and grasp the business challenges faced by our clients, understanding user pain points and potential solutions;

Create inspiring, relevant creative briefs and translate insight into ideas and subsequent management of ideas;

You’re the glue that keeps the on-going collaboration between the internal team and the client vibrant, creative and effective.

Our requirements:

2 – 4 years overall experience in client relationship/management;

A solid understanding of the digital world, preferably with hands-on experience in either design or development in the past;

Proven experience in project management, meeting deadlines and budgets;

Proven ability to communicate and present technical and creative concepts to a client;

Has attention to detail that borders on the obsessive;

Knows their way around wireframes and site-maps;

You have personality and poise with clients, particularly when time pressures and client feedback are overwhelmingly intense;

Has a sense of humor and works well under pressure;

Familiarity with web standards;

An obsessive compulsion when it comes to organisation, scheduling, time management and improving workflow efficiency.

You have proven effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people;

Must be self-motivated, and able to multi-task;

Must have the ability to see projects through from start to finish;

Must be able to take initiative to be productive and efficient;

Must be able to function independently and still work well in a “team oriented” environment.

Job Perks

Cool Cuba Street office with a toilet and staircase, we’re all secretly in a rock band, there’s no dress code, we’re vegetarian friendly, collaborative environment, performance perks, employee development, free food, iPhone, performance reviews, and lots more!

If this sounds like you, please submit your COVER LETTER, RESUME, and ONLINE PORTFOLIO demonstrating your experience by emailing us.

Howdy all. Team Catch has been busy flippin’ the switch on a bunch of new projects we’ve kicked into life. As such, we’ve been a little busy so sorry no updates of late. But, fear no more, here’s a big one!

Scopa Caffe Cucina and Duke Carvells. Scopa, great traditional pizza, legend Italian hot chocolate – cornerstone of a vibrant Cuba St community. Brothers Leonardo and Lorenzo Bresolin arrived on site May 2006 and together with their father, Remiro, raised Scopa to become a favourite with Wellingtonians and visitors alike. And Duke Carvells, the boutique tappers bar in Swan Lane, Wellington, was opened in late 2008. After the success of Scopa, the Bresolin boys struck gold in a 2911 brick building, deep in the Cuba Quarter. Cuisine says “Duke Carvell’s has the air of a shabby, slightly suspect, gentlemen’s club…” The boys at Catch were asked to design and build two sites that caught the vibrancy and colourful atmosphere that’s made Scopa and ‘Dukes’ two of Wellington’s most popular restaurants! Watch this space for more to come…

Salient. Nominated for a 2009 Qantas Media Award, the Salient website is the online companion to the weekly magazine of the Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association. This recent release being the third in a long-standing relationship between Catch and Salient. The best yet… we think.

Beacon Pathway Ltd. a collaborative research consortium working to find affordable ways to make New Zealand homes more resource-efficient, cheaper to run, healthier to live in – and kinder to our environment. With design from DNA, Beacon was a complex challenge with multiple layers of content, permission levels and general IA challenges. Catch Design was contracted to build the back-end, which included all xHTML/CSS templates and development using Expression Engine.

Tax Management New Zealand. As the innovators of tax pooling in New Zealand, Tax Management New Zealand make provisional tax payments easier for New Zealand businesses. Their old website was drastically out-of-date and in need of an overhaul. Catch Design was approached to re-design their public-facing website in August 2008, as well as their entire application for accountants and businesses. With a desire to further enhance their Google rankings and public face, TMNZ asked Catch Design to again re-think the site structure and design.

Hurricanes. The Official Website of the 2009 Rebel Sport Super 14 Hurricanes, Team Catch pulled out a lot of late nights and early mornings to overhaul, design and build the new Hurricanes site in a matter of weeks.

And a few others that went live in 2009:

Creative Peoples Centre

All Saints Church

Motu

It Rockstar (CSS/HTML and Development only)

Whilst emulators of our favorite old gaming consoles are nothing new, I only recently discovered the desire to re-live my youth and seek out something to play my old favourite Commodore 64 games on again.

I’m on a mac, so naturally my emulator options were severely narrowed down. After trialling a few free emulators I opted to spend NZ$44 on Power64. This sweet puppy seems to be flawless when emulating the old games (the free ones bugged out or wouldn’t load games properly) and aided me in enjoying a weekend full of ‘Pirates!’, ‘Sk8 or Die!’ and ‘California Games!’.

Note: I’m not entirely sure but I think it’s a pre-requisite that commodore games have an exclamation mark at the end of their title.

Some people write things just to get rark people up and get hits. Usually I can spot it a mile off, but this time I’m not so sure.

On Design View, Andy Rutledge has an article titled The Employable Web Designer. Most of it is pretty reasonable, but he says some things towards the bottom that irked me a bit.

It is this paragraph in particular that annoys me:

“As an aside, you may find that there are plenty of job listings where the job requirements are described as, “must be expert with Photoshop and Illustrator…” or something long those lines. Ignore those job listings; they’re placed by inept and sick companies looking for decorators, not designers. Take a job with a company asking for a Photoshop expert and I promise you’ll never be allowed to engage in design.”

As someone who does know Photoshop pretty well, and is pretty sure that all the jobs he has done required Photoshop skills – and were advertised as such – and none of those companies have been “inept” or “sick”, this just grates on me. Perhaps I’m being a bit precious. Perhaps I don’t like being told that my skills are not required, or that I’m doing decorating, not designing.

I also don’t like this remark: “Anyone can learn to use Fireworks or Dreamweaver in an hour or less”. Maybe there’s learning to use, and then there’s being really good at using. I notice he didn’t mention Photoshop as something that “anyone can learn… in an hour or less”.

So, he got my back up, he baited me good and proper. The question is, was it intentional and planned, or is he just a blogger whom I disagree with on occasion?
