An ambitious challenge.

Leveraging the brand strategy and design from Wellington agency, Dick & Jane, we were one of a group of partner agencies and internal staff who were tasked with launching the new Mercury brand (formerly Mercury Energy and Mighty River Power) in the first half of 2016.

The website

Our first challenge was to research, test and design a new IA, bringing the consumer and business retail business together with their corporate arm.

Our design and development teams worked on a brand new Mercury Digital Design System, building a modular, reusable, responsive pattern library to life that needed to be reused across multiple digital environments.

We rapidly integrated the new design system onto their incumbent Kentico CMS, enabling Mercury staff full control of the site structure and page layouts.

There were multiple API integrations which given the timeframe, required cool heads, and a smart, pragmatic approach where required. Where appropriate, a new React layer was developed to lay the foundation for the future.

The website was launched on time, on budget and was a finalist in the 2017 Best Design Awards, as well as the 2017 Grand Effie and Supreme Award at the TVNZ Marketing Awards.

Their emails got a refresh too

As part of Mercury’s new brand, we designed and built their full suite of marketing, billing and system-related emails. Leveraging the new Digital Design System we created for the website, this allowed us to approach this work in a similar way — modular, reusable, mobile responsive components that were integrated into Marketo and their core internal systems.
