USU (March 2010)

USU
USU came to Catch at the end of 2009 and wanted to take their web presence on campus to a whole new level. They wanted to give students the opportunity to rate Unitec programmes and courses and provide feedback anonymously on the quality of their education. The process for building the site involved an initial consultation to see how their old site, also developed by Catch, was no longer meeting their needs. We identified a number of areas, but primarily we saw that what USU needed was an application framework as part of the CMS that would ensure they had single sign-on and a unified experience for their students as they continued to develop features in future versions of the website. Catch suggested the use of Drupal and helped USU to design the Rate My Course section of the site which USU feel will be a revolutionary tool for the Unitec students.

There are a number of impressive features of this site including integration with Google Apps (used for mail by Unitec students) to provide single sign-on to the site, a Rate My Course sub site which allows students to rate their papers, programmes and lecturers, a buy/sell section for flats, textbooks etc and an online version of the student magazine InUnison which is a content rich magazine with its own look and feel. This site was developed in a very short time frame to meet the needs of the organisation and fit in with their busy student schedule.
